Professor
Maria Fiatarone Singh, MD, FRACP,
is a geriatrician whose research, clinical, and teaching career has
focused on the integration of geriatric medicine, exercise physiology,
and nutrition as a means to improve quality of life for the aged. She is
a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and the
Gerontological Society of America, and is board-certified in internal
medicine and geriatrics in the United States. She is the principal
investigator of research supported by the National Institute of Health
in the United States and the NH&MRC and ARC in Australia, as well as
private foundations and health care companies. She has published
extensively in the area of aging, exercise and nutrition, having edited
one book, authored over 80 peer reviewed journal articles, 70book
chapters and reviews, and contributed to numerous lay publications. |
She
has served on many national policy and advisory boards, is on the
editorial board of the Journal of Gerontology, as well as a reviewer for
many of the major international internal medicine, physiology, exercise, gerontology, and nutrition journals. She is a recipient of the Edward Henderson Award for outstanding medical students in gerontology and the New Investigator Award, both from the American Geriatrics Society, the USDA Scientist of the year in 1995, the Brookdale Foundation National Fellowship Award, and the Herbert de Vries Award for Excellence in contributions to exercise and aging. Professor Fiatarone Singh is a professor of Medicine, Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Sydney, a senior researcher at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for Aged and a visiting scientist at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, both in Boston, MA. She is Founder and Executive Director of the Fit For Your Life Foundation, Ltd.
